毛细现象(又称毛细管作用)是指液体在细管状物体内侧,由于内聚力与附着力的差异、克服地心引力而上升的现象。植物根部吸收的水分能够经由茎内维管束上升,即是毛细现象最常见的例子。当液体和固体(管壁)之间的附着力大于液体本身内聚力时,就会产生毛细现象。液体在垂直的细管中时液面呈凹或凸状、以及多孔材质物体能吸收液体皆为此现象所致。
