    本文选取国际大众传播学界五本核心期刊,采用内容分析的方法,从研究者、研究主题、研究方法、研究的社会环境等方面,较为全面地勾勒了90年代西方大众传播学研究的总体状况,并揭示了其中八个重要特点: 1 、大众传播学既是一个独立学科,又是一个重要研究领域; 2 、研究更加深入、研究难度增加; 3 、研究队伍发生较大变化; 4 、研究领域有了新的变化,但仍以传统主流研究为主; 5 、研究方法多样化,社会科学研究方法受到批判研究、诠释研究的挑战; 6 、大众传播学的研究中心基本形成,但其在研究内容、研究方法上的特色尚不够鲜明; 7 、研究受到社会资助有限; 8 、欧、美研究的差异依然明显。
